Our pathetic little puddle of a pond was replenished enough to warrant some attention again. Every year it grows and shrinks, but this August it seemed painfully small. Anyhow, last week’s rain brought the level up a bit, which gave us hope for its long-term survival. I saw the boys and their friend throwing rocks in it again and I noticed a beautiful mist off it just this morning. We just had to put those muck boots on to stomp along the edges too.
When we purchased the house, we were coming from a house with a defunct pond and were not altogether happy about another go with one. But, I found out from a neighbor that this pond was dug in the 80’s, so I don’t suppose it will disappear after all. I do find myself checking it daily. It’s not as if I could do anything for it, but rather I am ever searching for frogs, turtles, and our beautiful heron guest (whom I still haven’t gotten a photo of, he’s camera-shy and I’d rather just leave him be to hunt for food). And so it ebbs and flows with the seasons and we continue to monitor and play.
